107. James11 Balfour (John10, John9, Professor James8, James7, James6, James5, Andrew4, James3, David2, Alexander1) was born in Edinburgh 10/05/1830. James died 1913 in Melbourne, at 83 years of age.
He married Frances Charlotte Henty in Hawthorne Church, nr Melbourne, 19/04/1859. Frances was the daughter of James Henty.
He was christened in Edinburgh, 16/06/1830. He was listed as a resident in the census report in Pilrig Street, Edinburgh, 1841. From The Times, August 25, 1913
A telegram from Melbourne annouces the death of Mr. James Balfour, the Parlimentarian in Victoria.
The son of a merchant of Leith, he was born in 1830 and was educated at Edinburgh Academy. In 1852 he went out to Australia, and was first elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly in 1866, entering the Legislative Council in 1874. He held office in the Gillies-Deakin and McLean Ministries, and was president of the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce in 1885-86.
Had six sons and five daughters.
