He married twice. He married Elizabeth Haggerty. Elizabeth was born in Ireland. Elizabeth died 8 November 1892 in Canada. He married Jane Caroline Blair in St. John's, Calcutta, India, 1 November 1821. Jane was born 26 April 1797. Jane died 25 April 1834 in Elham, Kent, at 36 years of age.

He married Harriet Livingstone Learmonth 20 March 1865. Harriet was born in Hobart, Tasmania 21 June 1839. Harriet was the daughter of John Livingstone Learmonth and Anne Alicia Hare MacWhirter. Harriet died 25 July 1901 in Poole, Dorset, at 62 years of age. She was listed as a resident in the census report in Down Wood, Langton Long, Blandford, Dorset, 1881. She was listed as a resident in the census report in Mastrick Hall, The Avenue, Branksome, Dorset, 1901.

He was listed as head of household in the 1881 census in Down Wood, Langton Long, Blandford, Dorset. He was listed as a resident in the census report in Bergholt, Holdenhurst, Hampshire, 1891. He was listed as head of household in the 1901 census in Mastrick Hall, The Avenue, Branksome, Dorset. Major General in HM Army (1901).

14 iii. Anne Jane Reid was born in India 22 May 1827. Anne died 16 March 1831 at 3 years of age.

18 vii. Lestock Holland Reid was born 10 July 1844. Lestock died 15 August 1914 at 70 years of age.

19 viii. Ann Georgina Susan Reid was born in Bowmanville, Ontario 17 August 1847. Ann died 8 January 1915 at 67 years of age.
