1. William¹ Douglas 3rd Duke of Hamilton was born 1634. William died 18/04/1694 in Holyrood House, Edinburgh, at 59 years of age.

He married Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess of Hamilton in Corstorphine Church, nr. Edinburgh, 29/04/1656. Anne was born 1632. Anne was the daughter of James Hamilton 1st Duke of Hamilton and Lady Mary Feilding. Anne died 1716 at 84 years of age.

Changed his name to Hamilton in accordance with the will of his wife's uncle, William. Earl of Selkirk, Lord Daer, Lord Shortcleuch.

William Douglas 3rd Duke of Hamilton and Anne Hamilton 3rd Duchess of Hamilton had the following children:

2 i. Katherine² Hamilton.

3 ii. Mary Hamilton was born 30/04/1657.

+ 4 iii. James Hamilton 4th Duke of Hamilton was born 11/04/1658.

+ 5 iv. George Hamilton 1st Earl of Orkney was born c1666.
