14. Sir Gilbert⁵ Elliot (Sir Gilbert⁴, Sir Gilbert³, Gavin², Gilbert¹) was born in Minto, Roxburghshire September 1722. Gilbert died 11/02/1777 in Marseilles, France, at 54 years of age.

He married Agnes Dalrymple-Murray-Kynynmound in Edinburgh, 14/12/1746. Agnes died 30/12/1778.

Educated at Dalkeith Grammar School and Edinburgh University. Appointed Lord of the Admiralty in 1756, Treasurer of the Chamber in 1762, Keeper of the Signet for Scotland in 1767, and Treasurer of the Navy in 1770.

Sir Gilbert Elliot and Agnes Dalrymple-Murray-Kynynmound had the following children:

17 i. Alexander Kynynmond⁶ Elliot. Alexander died 1777. Died in service of the East India Company.

18 ii. Robert Elliot. Robert died 1824.

19 iii. Eleanor Elliot. Eleanor died 1818. She married William Eden 1st Lord Auckland.

+ 20 iv. Gilbert Elliot 1st Earl of Minto was born 1751.

+ 21 v. Hugh Elliot was born 6/04/1752.
