1. John¹ MacWhirter was born in Chirnside, Bewick, Scotland 4 July 1780. John died 13 December 1853 in Edinburgh, at 73 years of age. His body was interred 1853 in Warriston Cemetary, Edinburgh.

He married Harriett Ann Reid in Calcutta, Bengal, India, 12 September 1810. Harriett was born in India 12 April 1794. Harriett was the daughter of John Reid and Anne Boileau. Harriett died 7 July 1853 at 59 years of age. She was listed as a resident in the census report in 4 Ainslie Place, Edinburgh, 1841.

He was christened in Chirnside, Bewick, Scotland, 16 July 1780. He was listed as head of household in the 1841 census in 4 Ainslie Place, Edinburgh.

John MacWhirter and Harriett Ann Reid had the following children:

2 i. Harriet Seton² MacWhirter was born in Calcutta, Bengal, India 12 October 1814. She was christened in Calcutta, Bengal, India, 8 November 1814.

3 ii. Anne Alicia Hare MacWhirter was born in Calcutta, Bengal, India 15 January 1816. Anne died 21 February 1892 at 76 years of age. Her body was interred 1892 in Warriston Cemetary, Edinburgh. She married John Livingstone Learmonth in Hobart, Tasmania, 24 January 1837. John was born in Kersiebank, Polmont, Stirling, Scotland 16 February 1812. John died 18 March 1871 in Kensington, London, at 59 years of age. (See John Livingstone Learmonth for the continuation of this line.)

She was christened in St. Andrew's, Calcutta, 13 February 1816. She was listed as head of household in the 1881 census in Belfore House, Great Malvern, Worcestershire. She was listed as head of household in the 1891 census in Bergholt, Holdenhurst, Hampshire. A grandson is listed as Arthur P.L. Learmonth b c. 1886 in India (1891).

4 iii. Frances Mercer MacWhirter was born in Calcutta, Bengal, India 20 August 1817. Frances died 12 September 1820 in South Park St., India, at 3 years of age. She was christened in Calcutta, Bengal, India, 22 August 1817.

5 iv. Daughter MacWhirter was born 29 September 1818.

+ 6 v. John Peach MacWhirter was born 1 January 1820.

7 vi. F. H. MacWhirter was born 1821. She was listed as a resident in the census report in 4 Ainslie Place, Edinburgh, 1841.

8 vii. F. E. MacWhirter was born in Midlothian, Scotland 1828. She was listed as a resident in the census report in 4 Ainslie Place, Edinburgh, 1841.

9 viii. Georgina Fairlie MacWhirter was born in India 1831. Georgina died 1883 in Wandsworth, London, at 52 years of age. She married James Alexander Dunbar 11 June 1845. James was born in Calcutta, Bengal, India 1815. James died 1901 in Wandsworth, London, at 86 years of age. He was listed as head of household in the 1871 census in Pittville Circus, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. He was listed as head of household in the 1881 census in 77 Ladbrooke Grove, Kensington, London. He was listed as head of household in the 1891 census in 44 North Side, Clapham, London.
