TO THE MEMORY OF The Revd JAMES WORSLEY M.A. Rector of Gatcombe who died Octr 3rd 1798, Aged 49 OF ANNE, his wife who died Octr 27th 1824, Aged 75 AND OF Seven of their Children --- MARY, died Augt 31st 1790 HARRIET, died Augt 8th 1797 ANNE, Wife of Capt Henry Hill, R.N. died Sepr 23rd 1805 JAMES, Capt : Royal Artillery, died of Fever at Jamaica, May 5th 1806 FREDERICK, Lieut, R.N. of H.M. Ship Undaunted, died of wounds received in a gallant attack on the Enemy, in the bay of Marseilles, March 24th 1813 WILLIAM, Lieut, R.N. died of Fever off the Malabar Coast, April 6th 1813 HENRY, Brevet Lieut-Col, C.B. H.M. 34th Regt. after a course of arduous service particularly at Walcheren & in the Peninsular War for his gallant conduct in which he was rewarded by his Sovereign with many medals died of Consumption, May 13th 1820. The Revd James Worsley M.A. was the second son of Sir Edward Worsley of Gatcombe House by Dame Elizabeth daughter of Sir John Miller, Bart, and Grand-daughter of Sir William Meux of Kingston, Bart, and Great Grand-daughter of Sir John Meux, Bart, by Dame Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Richard Worsley, Bart. Sir Edward Worsley was descended from John Worsley, a younger Branch of the Appuldurcombe family, and Brother of Sir Richard Worsley, created a Baronet, June 11th 1511 Erected by Their affectionate Daughter, and Sister, ELIZABETH DIXON 1836
James married Ann Hayles on 11 July 1771. (Ann Hayles was born in 1749 and died on 10 July 1824.)
