A merchant, he engaged in various enterprises. He had soap-works, glass-works, and an alum factory in Leith. Governor of the Darien Company.
James married Helen Smith, daughter of Robert Smith and Elizabeth Hope, in 1679 in Edinburgh. (Helen Smith was born in 1659 in Edinburgh, christened on 27 February 1659 in Edinburgh and died in 1732.) |
Cause of his death was Fever.
