Fought the War of Spanish Succession, Lt-Governor of Virginia 1727. Colonel of an American Regiment 1740; wounded in Siege of Cartagena. Brigadier-General. Had one son and one grandson who both died. The Baronetcy passed to his brother The Right Reverend Thomas Gooch.
