Assumed the name Ashe pursuant to the will of his Uncle Edward Ashe of Heytesbury Esq. General of his majesty's forces and Colonel of the 11th Regiment of Infantry. MP for Heytesbury. According to his will he left half his estate to Charles Edward Repington. Charles Edward would in turn leave his estate to William's grandson Edward.

William married Annabella Vernon, daughter of Thomas Vernon and Jane Stiles, on 22 February 1747 in Chapel of St Bride's London. (Annabella Vernon was born c 1706, died on 28 February 1777 in Heytesbury, Wiltshire and was buried on 6 March 1777 in Heytesbury, Wiltshire.)
