Cause of his death was Execution. General Notes: Inherited the estate and honours from his father in law. He was a principle actor in the murder of Rizzio in 1566, and was in consequence obliged to fly the kingdom. The influence of the Earl of Bothwell, however, obtained his pardon the same year, and on his return he refused to concur with Bothwell in the proposed murder of Lord Darnley. His political enemies accused him in Parliament of James married Elizabeth Douglas, daughter of James Douglas, 3rd Earl of Morton and Unknown. |
