My dear William

I send you your Quarterly Accounts: - Mr. Ingram is the only defaulter; & I suspect I shall have some trouble with him, as he fancies, by his lease, he can oblige us to purchase all the hay he has left, whereas the lease only gives us the option of doing so.  Moreover, he lays claim to 22£ for the porch of the Staddle Barn & seems disposed to hold back his rent ‘till these points are settled.  I shall however make short work of him & his claims, but setting Phelps at him forthwith.  Have had no time to settle the “Wall account” with Prangley, but will do so when more at leisure.  I should hope you would have a balance coming to you on this acct.

We are getting on with Chandler’s Roof as also with the …….., but have not yet commenced planting.  The Quarterly bills, as you will perceive, are very moderate.  I have remitted 1000£ to Messrs Bouverie & Co on your account.

Your affectionate Brother
