General Notes: A dealer in textile fabrics. He was the first member of the Alleyne family to settle in Barbados. During the clashes between the Royalists and the Roundheades, he was with a deputation sent to England in 1650 to request assistance from Oliver Cromwell which was granted. A considerable naval force was sent to Barbados arriving at the island on 15 October 1651. Colonel Alleyne was fatally wounded on 7 December 1651 leading a landing force in a successful attack. He died on board the Rainbow, a ship of the commonwealth. His wife was granted a pass by the Royalists to go aboard the ship to see her wounded husband. Noted events in his life were: 1. He signed a will on 16 June 1650. 2. He had an estate probated on 14 June 1652. Reynold married Mary Skeet, daughter of Mr. Skeet and Unknown. |
