General Notes:
From The Times, May 11, 1982
Miss Hilda Reid, daughter of Sir Arthur Hay Stewart Reid, died on April 24 at the age of 83. She became a writer of distinction chiefly (though not exclusively) of novels. With her contemporary Vera Brittain she edited Pavements at Anderby, a collection of short stories and articles by another contemporary, Winifred Holtby. War interrupted her career as a writer of fiction. Already experienced as voluntary county organizer in Dorset, she became an ARP warden in Chelsea serving from 1939 to 1942. This experience, in turn, led to her making an important contribution to the volume on Civil Defence in the officeal War History in the years 1945-51.
